Head, Section on Developmental Genetics
Email: mukherja@exchange.nih.gov
My undergraduate education is from Presidency College (under the University of Calcutta) and after completing a bachelor's degree I came to the US and received my M.D. and Ph.D. degrees followed by postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Human Molecular Genetics, respectively. I joined the NICHD in 1976 as a Clinical Associate and in 1978 I was promoted to become the Head of the Section on Developmental Genetics in the Human Genetics Branch, which is currently the Heritable Disorders Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). My Section conducts both basic and clinical investigations to understand the molecular mechanisms of hereditable neurodegenerative- and complex inflammatory/autoimmune diseases in order to develop novel therapeutic approaches. More information on the mission of my Section and that of the Heritable Disorders Branch can be obtained from the NICHD website.
