RVing to Niagara Falls, July 3-5, 2004 America is country of great possibilities, and one thing that people can do here is drive to pretty much any where in the country, something that we usually would not think of doing back home (India). On top of it, the most luxurious way of travel in this country, is in huge bus like vehicles called Recreational Vehicles (RV) which are equipped with kitchen, bathroom, dining space, refrigerator-freezer, several beds, its like driving in your own apartment. To get an experience in this very American endeavor, Mukesh and Ruchika organized a trip to Niagara Falls and it won’t have been such a great success without the active and enthusiastic participation by all. Some of the best products of a trip like this is that not only do we generate millions of memories; it gives a chance to everyone to know others in a way not possible by occasional meetings and to get out peoples’ hidden talents. Niagara Falls is the biggest water-fall in North America, about 10 hrs drive north from Washington DC. A total of 13 people got on board. We started on the morning of 3rd July from Rockville. After a drive of 5 hrs our first stop was Pittsburg, and then we drove on to Niagara Falls. It was the first camping experience for many but all worked fine with the help of a newly discovered engineer amongst us. The camp-site was about 6 miles from the city. The next day, 4th of July, American Independence day, after breakfast, we started for Niagara Falls city. Words cannot do justice to the beauty of the Falls and pictures can only try. We explored the falls all day and rode the Maid of the Mist, a boat ride that takes you right to the center of the falls. The day ended with fireworks on the falls and then camp-fire. We returned home next day driving through western New York. Mukesh and Manjunath tried their hands at driving the big vehicle and by the time we got back they were ready for their part-time truck driver’s job, Rohini came up with some of best ideas for games, Ruchi exhibited her expertise at cooking an all-American breakfast of pancakes professionally made, Rajeev kept an unending supply of his 30 min boiled adrak wali chai, Joby did a great job at getting things to work when no one had a clue, the Rajasthani folk artist, Tej, would have remained hidden for ever, Ravi with his pleasing and helping personality proved to be the best partner to everyone in everything, Praful the budding professional exhibited his skills at photography, Saurabh’s acting skills got exposed during the dumb-charade, Neelima with her captivating smile and Devyani with her calm took charge of keeping the RV clean for everyone, Kailas shared the burden with everyone else. Keep it up ladies and gentlemen; we will do it many times again.
